Description | Joy Bussem (nee Whittaker) was born in Tottington and lived in Carlton Place, Ramsbottom before emigrating, with her parents, to Australia. Her grandmother was May Spencer, daughter of Charles Cunliffe Spencer. In her letters she gives information relating to the Spencer family who were engravers and calico printers at Hazelhurst Engraving Works on Bolton Road West, Ramsbottom. Apparently she wrote to the Society (although her early corrspondence is not in the collection) as near to her home, in Australia, were places named Tottington, Holcombe, New Hall and Ramsbottom. These all belonged to Lawrence Rostron originally from the Ramsbottom area. |
